Always assumed it was because single handers preferred it that way.
I would be happy to "crew" for anybody as long as there was somewhere
to rest my weary head.
nb Early retired politics lecturer who had 2 hire boat holidays many
years ago,has walked most of the N Wales/N West/N Midlands canals in
last 5 years, is hoping to go for a 12th share sometime once I've
persuaded my wife of waterway delights-perhaps she needs to
be "invited" to crew!
