There are many dry docks still in use. We usally dock at worsley, 
which 
has two double dry docks.

As the others have said, there are also boatlifts/cranes in use. As 
well a slipways boats can be hauled up.




Heres a photo of the slipway at tarleton, which has a trolley on a 
track, winched up by a small winch. (actally a steam engine run off 
compressed air)

And heres a few photos of the dry dock at middlewich.
 - The plank on the right of the first picture are placed accross the 
entrance, and then the water is realsed down the canal. (the dock is 
half way up a flight of locks)
