Having already contacted my MP, the very constituency minded Boris
Johnson, and received a reply stating that he would ask the relevant
minister the questions I had posed I wrote to him again urging him to
support the EDM.

I should like to quote from his reply. " As an Opposition Front Bench
Spokesman, I do not sign Early Day Motions. This is because an EDM is a
Parliamentary process by which Back Benchers are able to draw attention
to a particular matter of concern. Also, I believe EDMs are not always
the best procedure, as the majority are not considered for debate."

He then continued to assure me that he had made representations to DEFRA
and will reply once he has received a satisfactory response.

The reason for this posting? If your MP is a prominent Front Bencher,
don't be too disappointed if they haven't signed the EDM.
