First, to recap from BW's last Accounts:
Total income: £190.5m of which Gvt grant was £76.1m
In 2005/06 English Heritage had 595,000 members. 4.7m people visited the
paid sites, and 5m visited the open sites.
Total income was £167m of which Gvt grant was £125m and other income £41.9m.
So smaller income overall, but greater percentage from Gvt. EH has not been
caught in the cuts because it comes under the Department of Culture, Media
and Sport (though note here that there are fears that culture will loose out
to sport because of the 2012 Olympics)
Now the National Trust. This organisation is on a completely different
scale.
Membership - 3.4 million which alone generates income of £92.7m.
12m visits to paid properties, 50m visits to other NT owned land etc.
Total income of the Trust in 2005/06 was £337.2m.
So EH probably closer to BW than NT.
