I seem to come back from boating trips with every muscle and joint aching. 
This leads me to believe that no particular exercise would be useful  - 
rather you would need to do a whole series of exercises to ensure all-round 
fitness.  And whose got time for that?  I expect most others are like me and 
just put up with the pain in exchange for the enjoyment of the boating.
