And, anyway, why should be roads be priced at cost-plus? Most things in our society are priced based on the market (i.e. a price where demand equals supply). >As for particulates the only reason that they have become a problem is the >move to less polluting fuels and fitting cats on diesel vehicles, because of >that the size of particulates has got smaller and thus become a problem. There is at least one technical solution to that. I was until recently partner with a man who was an expert in both car design and explosives. He developed a system for diesels to burn a combination of diesel fuel and LPG. The result was better fuel economy, and (because the fuel burns at a higher temperature than straight diesel) the carbon particles were fully burned and didn't come out of the exhaust pipe. He is not the only person to try this, but most of the others have failed to control the higher temperature, and burned out a lot of engines. Although when I filled my car up with LPG recently in the midlands, there was a Scania semi at the same pump. The driver said all the trucks in his company had a conversion to burn a diesel/LPG mix. ( So why aren't I rich? My partner turned out to be not only an engineering genius (really), but a chronic liar. Impossible to work with.) Adrian Adrian Stott 07956-299966
