I have such a TV, off 12v batteries on board, the picture is fine but there  
is no sound. By running from the mains lead (which incorporates a step down  
transformer) through the boat's inverter everything works fine. Presumably  
significant inefficiencies exist in the system, but it works, uses the standard 
 
components and is simple enough for the average electrophobe to use.
