A better test is http://www.speedtest.net/ (and also on dslzoneuk- see
below)

Marginal for ADSL at 2.5km!! They are pulling the wool over your eyes IMHO!

Try http://www.dslzoneuk.net, the distance to the exchange for my PostCode
gives....
You are around 2.29 kilometres from your exchange (as the crow flies).
Measuring in Memory Map along the road (since I don't see a line strung
across the M6!) gives me 2.96km
and my sync speed is 3778 = 3.0Mb.
I've a friend on the outskirts of Lancaster, over 4km from the exchange
getting 2Mb.
Dslzoneuk can also tell you if the exchange is good or congested.
