One of the first private sector firms I worked for had got into the habit of sending the MD up to the County Court most mornings after the post was opened to pay off the judgements against the company. I'm not saying that the public sector employers I've subsequently had were paragons, but that early experience was an eye-opener [even allowing for the fact that it was in the replacement window business].
