A couple of years ago coming off the Oxford onto the Thames the boat was very
sluggish We moored then found an orange rope hooked round the rudder. Pulling
the rope in 20' along at the other end was a Sainsbury's plastic supermarket
basket with mesh over the top and a mesh chimney allowing access but not exit.
There were 6 large Crayfish in the basket. We passed the basket and its
contents to the crew of a passing EA tug.

Before you get off the Oxford get some old tights and a few wire coat
hangers, some luncheon meat and some line
Make a lure style fishing contraption with the wire and tights bait it with
luncheon meat in the middle and find a bridge hole to lower it into the cut.
The trap needs sides or a suitable sag in the tights to trap your prey.
Some of the finest crustaceans (are they) will make it onto your trap haul
it up and you have Crayfish (american?) in abundance. Superb for a paella or
just a sea food style salad. Seen people there with bread crates swarming
with them.
