Adrian included in his answer " If funding yourself from the income of a property portfolio is such a bad idea, how is it that so many major universities (Harvard, Stamford, Oxford ...) have used it successfully for so long?"
Not sure about Harvard or Stamford but your use of Oxford as an example is very poor. If you look at my council tax compared to Bucks or Berks you will see how much extra we have to pay which is attributed to supporting the university of Oxford. They may use property income but they also swallow a whole lot of local tax payers income as well as national education funding. Graham www.jannock.org.uk
