Agreed but if you go down the route of my preferred option, Large 
battery bank and big inverters and a direct charging 24v genset you 
wouldn't have to run a genset at all except to charge the batteries. 
This would mean that you could sit in peace and quiet when moored and 
could run the genset at any time not when you need the power. It would 
also mean that the genset would always be fully loaded when on and would 
therefore not suffer from any light use problems.
