And in four weeks time (19/4) I'll be one of the Alvechurch boaters
going from Hilperton to Bristol and I'll be slowing down and I'll be
overjoyed to talk to any other boater (owner or hirer) (especially if
from this list) who is happy to use the canals at a leisurely pace and
be sociable!

Some years back I was passing Wooten Wawen on the Stratford Canal at around
16:00 on a Saturday afternoon. This, of course, is release time for all the
hirers & I cursed my timing that up 'til then I hadn't given a thought to. So
many people being let loose on the canal @ the same moment caused an
unnaturally long queue of boats @ the nearby lock. The back of the queue, which
I reluctantly joined, stretched well past the hard standing before the lock &
back into ''natural'' banking which in this case was a steep slope upwards from
the water. My immediate predecessor in the queue included a young lad who leapt
athletically off of his family's hire boat, rope in hand, & ran up the steep
bank for several paces. Isaac Newton's mate Mr G. Ravity, caused him to stop,
turn & run down the slope & straight in the canal up to his waist! I asked him
how long they were out for & he replied [in a thick Dudley accent, which made
it even funnier to see]'' 'til next Tuesday! ''
 Priceless:-))))!!!
