Nuff said - We agree that privates are generally worse than hirers with shares
somewhere in the middle (and very unpredictable) in the ignorance stakes.
But our worst group - luckily small - is them 'experts' that take show boats
to rallies - like Crick. Some we have met seem to think they can always touch
up damage and as they are late...
For example we were rammed by one last year when moored on a wide bit of
canal. On another occasion one didn't let us leave a wide lock - as we opened
the gate our side he came in head on - yelling at us to get out the way he was
in a hurry. Neither boat described was cheap - both from top rated firms -
amazing.

On Easter Sunday we at our mooring doing some odd jobs around the boat.
During the afternoon we were passed by eight boats, six hire boats (4
Viking Afloat, 1 Bookline, 1 Alvechurch) and two private boats.
All the hire boats slowed down (though one a bit late), neither of the
private boats slowed down, and even hit us even though the was plenty of
room to get past!
