It's probably better than you think. We lag glass columns with 50mm of preformed Rockwool, covered with silver tape. With the contents of the column at 200C, the outside of the silver tape is hardly warmer than ambient. However it's a PITA to work with, you will be scratching for ages, also not good to breathe in.
