Yeah, we had an annual boiler test every year, which lasts 14months. With a hydrulic test to 1.5x presure every four years. - Being condesing ofcause means we get far less build up of salts as we're only adding virgin water for makeup. Maybe two gallons a day there, plus about the same which we blow out each day. The only trouble is the oil with comes out of the steam thats been though the engine.
You can burn wood. But there isnt anywhere like the energy per volume as with coal. - You need a boiler deigned for it, which a much larger firebox. And it needs to be good wood too really, or else you just gum up your tubes. So its not really feasable unless you have a lot of it, and a butty to carry it in or somthing! Ditto turbine steam/electic. I just can see it scaling down very well at all. Daniel
