Date - 06 /05/08 Day - Tuesday Start - 0815 Cowley Peachey End - Bourn End 1700 The day started warm and got warmer, brighter and generally more summer like. There was absolutely nothing moving about all morning and wa didn't see another boat on the move until we got to Winkwell. The water at times was so clear that we could see fish below the boat and on one occasion we spotted a red and white Koi about 15" long. At one lock a fisherman was fishing just below the lock with his keep net hanging on the mooring bollard, luckily for all the lock was empty so by dropping someone at the bridge hole we were able to go straight into the lock. We stopped for water at Apsley and I put my electricians head on, reconfigured the 24 volt batteries and connected them to the engine batteries so they recharged from the 12 volt alternator. This had two effects, the good one was that we left the boat with fully charged batteries but the down side was the 24 volt system was disconnected so no water pump. At Winkwell the traffic increased dramatically and at the second lock we were able to share with another boat going up as well as meeting three coming down. We were going to moor on Grahams mooring at Bourn End but had to go up through two more locks before we could wind. It was on this part of the journey that we came across a cruiser that adrift right across the cut, it had been moored very close to the bridge hole and looked as if it gad been hit more than once or twice, we remoored it an few yards further from the bridge. When we finally moored up on Graham's mooring I reconfigured the batteries removed the 24 volt alternator and had a well earned show before going to the pub for dinner before the drive home. -- Brian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
