3 offer some very good mobile internet, and I know a couple of people
who use it regularly, but there is one major problem with 3: They
don't have any 2.5g services, or any reciprocal data carrier
agreements with other companies. What this means is that if you can't
get a 3g signal, you can't get any data connection.

Other than this caveat I can't see any other problems, but for
convenience I want to use a mobile phone with bluetooth to provide
wireless within the boat itself - 3g is hard to get inside a boat, so
you stuck to a window with a USB lead normally.

There is another way that Martin's site doesn't mention for people who
only want access occasionally (like when on holiday), and thats via
Orange Pay and Go. They have a special addon which allows internet
access for £1 all day (around 2Gb download before getting into fair
use problems AFAIK), all you need is a 3g mobile (preferably with
HSDPA for extra high speed), and a Pay and Go sim (the deal is
available for contract customers as well BTW).

The phone I was eyeing up has been sold off now, it was £150 and had
HSDPA. On the website you can add an extra £50 of calls to the
account, and get £30 off the price of the phone, thus making the phone
£120, and giving me 50 days of internet access for a total of £170 -
obviously if you already have a 3g phone...

Anyway thats my 0.002p's worth.
