No, I can genuinely - hand on heart - say that my query was based on the
deeply nauseous feeling I always get in the pit of my stomach when I see an
otherwiswe sane bloke steering a trad boat with a 'kerchief flapping round
his neck. Doncha just know he wears it like a badge of canal privilege.
Doncha just know that he's gonna take the middle of the canal and leave you
grounded on the side? Doncha you just know that as he passes he's gonna look
down his nose at you so far he'll be peering over the edge of his chin?

My very worst experience was leaving the top of Hatton one day when the
'kerchiefed steerer of a hotel pair actually touched my sterm complaining I
was going too slow. I asked him what he was doing - though, fair to say, my
language may have been slightly more colourful than this account of it
suggests. He camr out with some cock and bull story about having a JP2 and
not being able to travel slower.

Oh, how I smirked since I had a JP3 and didn't feel the same need as he did
to rip out the pegs of innocently moored boats.

Steve
