It is not when cruising we need to decrease the charging time. We are a liveaboard and don't really want to keep on the move every day. We tend to find a pleasant spot and moor up for 3 or 4 days and watch the world go past. It is at these times we would like to reduce the amount of time the engine runs for battery charging. We have a Beta Marine battery management system and it has been suggested that this is not all it might be and could be the reason the batteries are failing after a couple of years use, when we had hoped for rather longer. The batteries are 6v deep-cycle, connected in series and then parallel. Richard Tanner NB Cartref
