Hello Richard,
Before you purchase a 175-amp alternator to your Beta engine, Phone
John Middleton, Manchester who supplies all sorts of alternators.
He is a WALKING WEALTH OF INFORMATION and will advise you well.
He will also give you the best price in the UK for an alternator.
Details:
G.E Middleton & Co.Ltd
359-363, City Rd, Manchester, Lancashire M15 4DE
Tel: 0161 872 0923

I spoke to John (A long time ago now) but he advised me to purchase a
particular alternator because it has a high charge rate curve at low
revs, rather than the one I was enquiring about. (It gets into 'top
gear' earlier for max charging rate.)

I purchased and fitted his recommendation and have been completely
satisfied. Some time later, I added a PDAR Stirling Digital
Alternator Controller. This cut down my engine hours by about 50% and
have fully charged batteries into the bargain, which hold the charge
longer, (Having more in them to start with).

>From my experience, you may find that fitting a PDAR may be the
answer with your existing alternator but talk to John about it before
parting with any money.

Good luck with a satisfactory outcome, ~Allan~

175 amp in place of the 95 amp fitted. This is now being fitted by
Beta as standard. The idea being that it should reduce the running
time needed to charge the batteries when I am moored up for a period
of time.
