Well you commented Dave! :-)
I see it has been mentioned on Canalworld web thingy a while back. I have 
only just revisited, because someone told me there is now an Irish Boater 
contingent.
I should imagine it stems from the professionals at BW having no idea how 
wide their narrow canals *should* be.
