You can image the conversation (if any). Media chap doing stoppage notice 'How 
long is this stoppage for?' BW type in local office who has picked up phone, 'I 
don't know'. Media chap 'I'll put closed until further notice then'.

One of the slightly annoying things about the BW stoppage service is the 
overuse of "closed until further notice". To my mind that phrase means 
that whatever it is will be closed for an extended period of 
unpredictable duration - for example the breach on the Stourbridge 
Canal. Using it for stoppages such as

8am There is a tree down across the cut - closed until further notice

12am Contractors have now removed the tree and the navigation is open

rather devalues the phrase.
