There used to be, and maybe still is for all I know, a rig at the Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth, on which punters could get on a fixed bike connected to an alternator which in turn drove a 60w bulb. The effort required to get the bulb to do more than glow faintly was considerable. Baz
