I know nuthin....  IIRC Cetane for diesel is a bit like octane for petrol.
It's typical that they have to use a very old out of date trivial name (I've 
never heard anyone use it, except in relation to diesel) - almost as bad as 
the petrol one.
100 Octane refers to 100% of iso-octane, (a very bad trivial name - iso 
usually means one methyl not three) who's real name is 
2,2,4-Trimethylpentane.
Cetane's real name is Hexadecane
