The river was very low mid-summer, and not knowing the best route we went straight ahead which is wrong, apparently it is shallowest in the centre. We took it extremely carefully and turned as soon as we started stirring up mud from the bottom, which was only about a third of the way across. We then found it was relatively deep over to the right, towards the jetties etc - after all, a dinghy with its centre-board down is quite deep - and apparently if you keep over towards that side and take it carefully you should be able to reach to the far end. But if you get stuck you would have to pay for a private tow off again.
