But these top loaders aren't easy to find in the UK nowadays, are they? I heard
a rumour some company was planning to start making them again. Anyone heard
anything similar?

Subject: [canals-list] Cold fill washing machines

At our home in Spain we use solar energy to heat the hot water, our top load
washing machine, which would be ideal on a boat, is cold water fill only. To
save energy heating the water and to reduce the length of the washing cycle, we
fill the machine with correct amount of hot water using a bucket from the
thermatically controlled hot water tap supplying the bath and shower. We have be
using this method for some years with no problems. So if you have a ready supply
of hot water via a back boiler or calorifier and a limited amount of electrical
energy, use it. CKP
