Just type "top loading washing machine"into google and you will find a large
selection. The footprint of such a machine is much smaller than a front loader
and I would think much easier to use on a smaller boat.CKP

But these top loaders aren't easy to find in the UK nowadays, are they? I heard
a rumour some company was planning to start making them again. Anyone heard
anything similar?

At our home in Spain we use solar energy to heat the hot water, our top load
washing machine, which would be ideal on a boat, is cold water fill only. To
save energy heating the water and to reduce the length of the washing cycle, we
fill the machine with correct amount of hot water using a bucket from the
thermatically controlled hot water tap supplying the bath and shower. We have be
using this method for some years with no problems. So if you have a ready supply
of hot water via a back boiler or calorifier and a limited amount of electrical
energy, use it. CKP
