And was so called because it followed the line of the Vale of
Gloucester and then into the Vale of Berkeley. In the days when it
was called the Gloucester and Berkeley, it would have entered the
Severn about ¾ miles upstream from its present junction and Sharpness
Docks would not have then been built.
