The fact you said Essex leads me to suspect that you have the same problem 
as M-I-L.  The ITV multiplex tends to rather near the analogue channel 5, so 
it's a bit weak so as not to interfere.  Maybe your aerial is moving in this 
high wind we are having.
I have no such problems at home (Lancs) as we have no C5 analogue (and very 
soon no analoge at all....), so all the channels are better spaced.
