Yes, Victron wants to sell its equipment, but nonetheless the
information here is comprehensive and well presented.

One thing Vader points out is that exidation of the electrodes, which
eventually leads to cell death,  occurs continuously during float
charging.  This implies that it is best not to float charge for longer
than necessary.  I know of one barge with a shore line which kept its
battery on float all the time.  The battery gave up much sooner than
the owner expected..
