Under the new self-steer arrangements at Standedge Tunnel, BW are permitting three passages per day in each direction on three days per week, i.e. 18 boat movements per week. The tunnel itself also sees trip boat operations, but the locks either side of the summit are only used by boats passing through the tunnel, and so are effectively restricted to 936 boat movements per year (even assuming there was that level of demand in winter)! > potential funders refusing to support restoration on the grounds that such meagre traffic wouldn't provide any regeneration benefits I wonder if the funders of the Huddersfield and Rochdale restorations would have been so forthcoming if they had known of the restriction on boat movements that would follow.
