That's my understanding too - and I get the impression (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the improvement was achieved largely thanks to the Friends of the Cromford Canal persevering with talking to / writing to / generally trying to maintain a dialogue with DWT even when it appeared that they were banging their heads against a brick wall. (not sure if DWT would see it quite that way, mind you!) Martin
