I think it's time for a complete rethink of the canal lovers approach to government - perhaps we need more heavyweights onside - Max Clifford, Joanna Lumley - any other suggestions or even suggestions as to how to get them onside? Surely a forum like this is an ideal arena for bouncing new ideas around. There's even publicity today for university students from less fortunate backgrounds to get free grants for gap years - How about IWA/WRG offering extended courses in restoration work leading to qualifications in H & S and other work related matters so we could channel some gap year grants in this direction? There are more actives brains than mine out there, let's discuss some new ideas however hare brained they might seem initially. Government funding otherwise is only certain to get worse over coming years. John
