That's certainly one reason, but I gather that it's also the case that landowners would be likely to be happier with a new route coming in to the W&E via Lord Hay's Branch than the originally proposed new route joining the Cannock Extension not far north of Pelsall. (the original route via Churchbridge Locks having been largely lost to opencasting and subsequent development). Martin L
