There are a few designs of RGP boats I do like. Dandis spring to mind. But some
of the gin palace types on rivers seem totally impractical except whe moving or
moored up. Between those states they can be positively dangerous and
impractical for their occupants. In days gone by we hired some boats from
Maidboats and the smaller ones were real handy - stop on a sixpence but some of
the centre cockpits meant you needed to look two ways at once when turning or
the back end could go anywhere. Mind you we had a friend who had a steer from
the front narrow metal boat - made you realise how practical tiller steering is.

There's nothing wrong with cruisers. You're all being snobbish. For many
hundreds of people they represent an affordable entry-level way of getting onto
the waterways. Why are they always white? Well why are the hulls of 57.6inch
narrowboats always black? And why are they always steered by priggish white
haired men over 60 who hadn't heard of a canal until they stumbled on an
episode of Waterworld a couple of years ago and now think they own the
system...

Come on, guys. We can all be rude about other people's boats, but it's a
cardinal rule on the cut that you don't do that. You should be ashamed of
yourselves.

Tee hee! Actually, I rather like small plastic boats if they look nice.
One of the reasons for asking was that I have a cunning plan forming in
the back of my mind which might involve purchase of a small plastic
jobbie - perhaps of the 6 or 7 m length variety.

Wassail!
