As I understand it there is no need to keep formal records; I'm certainly not doing this. As to the split the system I came is that I declare 8 litres at the higher rate for every day I move the boat. This is probably too low figure a for modern engines (and it also depends how many hours you typically move for each a day) but the principle could be applied to any boat if an appropriate figure was worked out. Best of all it's easy to work out in your head if you can remember where and when you last filled up :-) Steve NB Bream
