Hi Heather & Derek, We were in this area earlier this summer. We had no previous knowledge of the area and were aware of various 'scare stories' that are told of highly urban areas such as Birmingham and Manchester. The advice that you have received in previous e-mails is, I am sure, very reliable. Our experience was that we thought we would moor at the Piccadily Basin. However, it is a bit bleak there and we were made aware that the police had been involved the previous evening in an incident involving bricks being thrown at a boat moored there. I am sure this is likely to be one of those isolated incidents that could happen anywhere, however we chose to move on to the Castlefield Basin - which is much nicer. As has been described, it's position is ideal. The only negative was the busy train and tram lines and music from a local pub, but we got used to that very quickly. It takes more than a train to stop me sleeping after a day full of locks! Good luck on your trip. Keith & Pat Norman
