> Herding cats…is that why your email address is catkeeper? No, that’s from the pre-web age when I had to join AOL to access a private forum for paid SuperCard developer support (and AOL's user name space was still virtually trackless, like fresh-fallen snow).
I was using SC to prototype color touchscreen ATM apps for Citibank, which internally called their home-brew ATMs CATs (so the division that designed apps for them was dubbed The CATkeeper Group). Since they were paying for the account, when I was prompted for a user name it was literally the first thing that popped into my head — and of course not yet taken. Just try that today... ;-) Curiously though nobody there seemed to know for certain what CAT was originally supposed to stand for (competing myths and legends concerning its etymology circulated orally, but in six years I never came across a definitive reference). It was just such an irresistibly perfect TLA (Three Letter Acronym) that it didn’t really matter. So long story short after three decades of using it, I’m still not sure exactly what that email address means... -Mark
