I might have slightly changed the peak locations (as described in the 
tutorial), but also tried the default peaks to no avail. Expectedly, 
renaming the preferences file didn't work either.What I forgot to 
mention is that I also tried to run the segmentation as a different user 
with no success.

I was wondering whether the problems I encounter might have something to 
do with some library Caret makes use of. For example, the crash report 
seems to list some Qwt-related functions before the crash. Should I 
maybe look into this? More generally, is there a way to find out which 
libraries Caret depends on during the segmentation process?
