I think Chris's question is regarding a different problem than ClearPass solves. ClearPass allows a Web login form to receive credentials so that authentication for non-CASified apps can occur.
Maybe the question is how to have the user logon to CAS from an app other than CAS. We had a thread running on this list "Iframe login particulars" back in February. There has been much discussion of the ClearPass solution on the list lately, http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/display/CAS/Proxying+clear-text+credentials, which claims to do this securely. It is currently under consideration to become an incubating project where it could become a CAS component in the future, but at present it's an exercise for the reader to determine how to integrate it with CAS.
