Rick,

It can be that easy.

It can be more difficult.

Besides nudging the metadata in your pom.xml, it's also a matter of looking
at every file in your local overlay and comparing it with the latest in CAS
and considering the differences in the vanilla CAS 3.4.12 and vanilla CAS
3.5.1 versions. As in, if the vanilla file changed, you might want to
apply something like that change locally, or you might want to delete your
local file, pull down the copy from CAS 3.5.1, and edit it anew. In some
cases "might want" becomes "you must do this or it won't work" -- things
are allowed to change between a 3.4 and a 3.5 version.

But in general, yes, the Maven overlay practice is supposed to make
upgrades easier by minimizing your local source files down to just the ones
that are unique and special to your environment and making the version of
the product you're overlaying upon a matter of declarative configuration in
pom.xml.

Hope this helps,

Andrew
