Thanks, Dan,
I think this relates to building a BORPH enabled Linux kernel 2.6 for
BEE2 using the 10.1 toolflow. I don't think it has any bearing on
building a BEE2 user fpga design using the 10.1 tools, but if it does
then it seems to imply that BEE2 development needs to stay on the 7.1
tools until a control fpga image is built using the 10.1 tools (and
maybe a 2.6 kernel?).

Hi, John,
Did you ever get any replies to your query from last December?
I just built a BEE2 design using 10.1 (and mlib_devel_10_1), but I
can't get it to work. No TinySH, and reads/writes to /proc/<pid>/
hw/ioreg/* just hang.
Do I have to go back to 7.1 for BEE2 development?
Thanks,
Dave

Hi. Does anyone know what the status of this is? Does borph on

Hello,
When I've had odd behavior like this before it turned out to be a
corrupt
bof file. I would try recopying the design to the BEE2, but
admittedly
it's
a bit of a long shot.

Hi All,
I just compiled one of my design and ran it on Bee2.
I notice 2 things:
1. When I run the bof file, I don't get the usual Bee2 message:
****************************
* TinySH lightweight shell *
****************************
Design name : bee_erg_det_v4p3
Compiled on : 29-Nov-2009 23:46:31
DON'T PANIC ;-)
Type 'help' for help
Type '?' for a list of available commands
BEE2 %
2. when I try to read or write a register, it just hangs!
Any ideas what could have gone wrong here?
The funny thing is that I only added a couple blocks to one of my
previous
design that worked fine! Now I'm getting this strange issue.
Please let me know if you ran into a similar problem before and
if you
know
how to deal with it.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Oussama.

Hi Mikolaj,
You are correct, there is a new version of BORPH that is based on the
2.6 kernel and is currently running on the ROACH board. It is a
complete rewrite of the code from the 2.4 kernel in the hope to have
it be more forward-compatible and have higher performance. I planned
to backport it back to the BEE2 but have never had the time to
actually doing it.
From your original post, it seems that the problems arise from the
xilinx ethernet driver though, so it is not really a problem with the
BORPH kernel (yet). I suggest you to take a look at the ethernet
driver that comes with 10.1 and see if that should be copied to the
2.4 tree before you can compile the zImage.

Hi Jean-Samuel,
I'm now trying to compile 2.4.30-pre1 with BORPH funtionality as
it is
descriped in BEE2 wiki page. Which is not enough because they use
Xilinx 7.1. The 2.6 kernel would be even better i think but it must
have Borph otherwise it is useless. I have seen that there is 2.6
Borph kernel for Roach.
I would gladly look at this appnotes.
I can also confirm that 10.1 is the last working version with
Virtex-II support but this version is widely used by CASPER.
Best,
Mikolaj

Hi All,
We're trying to get the version 10.1 tools running with BEE2,
and we

We're using gcc-3.3.6-glibc-2.3.2 for cross compilation and during
make zImage we get following error:
Hi Mikolaj,
Some time ago, I wrote appnotes for our research consortium, the CMC
Microsystems in Canada.
In the appnotes, I cover the steps to get the Linux kernel
2.6.25, U-Boot
and BusyBox to run on the BEE2 machine (including some source
code patches).
I used Xilinx 9.1.02, so that won't solve your problem with
10.1, but it
may be easier to get the 2.6 kernel to work with 10.1, so you
could use that
as a starting point.
I am not sure if that's what you were looking for, but if it can
be of any
help, you can contact Mr. James Millar ([email protected]) at CMC
Microsystems
and he can help you obtain the documents and associated files.
I'd be happy to assist you, but would need a bit more info on the
kernel
version you're trying to run on the BEE2.
10.1 seems to be the last Xilinx software support for the BEE2 since
Virtex-II Pro is no longer supported in 11.1...

Jean-Samuel
