That's definitely not the most helpful error message.
I tried to find the code where it might be possible to detect whether it's a missing file or file permissions problem but it seems that katcp_wrapper.py FpgaClient() sends a request to the ROACH (via tcpborphserver, I guess) and only gets 'OK' or not. So I don't see an obvious way to make the message more informative.
Here are a couple of things to check: Does the bof file have execute
permissions? Is it in the right directory?
So as I already wrote, I had not copied the bof file into roachnest:/var/roach1_root/boffiles/. I did that and the permissions are: -rwxr-xr-x 1 kuiper kuiper 4469216 Feb 29 09:22 r_spec_2048_r105_2010_Jul_26_1205.bof
However, I still get the same timeout error message.

I assume that tcpborphserver is running because I can telnet to port 4147. It doesn't respond to
?help
though, which is probably related to the timeout problem.

Tom
