Dear People Interested in the CASPER WORKSHOP This year's workshop is June 9-13, in Berkeley, California.
The last day to REGISTER for the casper workshop and upload your abstract (if you'd like to present a talk or poster) is IN SIX DAYS , APRIL 29. For information or to register for the workshop, please see: https://casper.berkeley.edu/wiki/Workshop_2014 To see a typical workshop program, past workshops are at: https://casper.berkeley.edu/wiki/Main_Page We will have talks in the morning, and in the afternoon you can go the lab to learn the tutorials (build a spectrometer, correlator, learn how to talk over 10Gbe to a GPU...), or to working groups, (typical working groups will be pulsar/transient/spectrometer instruments, correlators and beamformers, next generation FPGA and ADC boards, next generation tools and libraries, VLBI instruments, MKID instruments...). PLACES TO STAY ------------------------ 1) There's a relatively inexpensive place to stay, at the Foothill Dorm, a 7 minute walk to the conference. Costs are $88 per night single occupancy including breakfast, $66 per night double occupancy, including breakfast. If you would like to stay there, please email matt lebofsky and jack hickish (cc'ed on this), and please cc me, as we have to book this and pay for this for you. We need to know this in the next week or so. Please let us know which nights you want to stay, and and whether you want single or double occupancy, and what the probability is that you will stay there (and reemburse us). When you arrive, you will need to reemburse us via check made out to the regents of the university of california, or cash (we also might be able to collect payment via credit card, but we'll have to charge 3% more). 2) The cheapest places to stay is the piedmont hostel, about a 20 minute walk to campus, $55 for private room (shared bath), $32 for dorm room. funky but cheap - appropriate for students or those on a low budget. 3) if you book at a berkeley hotel, be sure to tell them you are coming for a casper conference at the university, and ask for a university discount: you might want to use kayak.com or other hotel web sites: 3a) Berkeley Inn, $69 per night, about 2 miles from conference, funky 1 star hotel 3a) French Hotel, 20 minute walk, nice They have special rate for UC Berkeley which is $ 95.00 for a queen size bed ($10.00 discount) each night. 3b) Bancroft Hotel, 20 minute walk, nice They offer UCB rates at $129. 3c) Hotel Shattuck Plaza, 15 minute walk, very nice, The code is UOFC10.
