>> if it is the big cable then it will take some works to fix. luckily, it's not one of the big cables. it's a 17,000 pound auxiliary backup suspension cable. some details below:

As Ward mentioned, an auxiliary cable that was installed to stabilize the torque of the platform with the installation of the dome came out of its socket and fell on the dish. We have plenty of panels to replace the broken ones on the dish and dome. We have to remove the 17,000lb cable that is dangling on the dome and replace that also replace the High Frequency Facility (HF) sub-reflector that also was lost. It may take a little while but we’re sure we can do it in due time. Thanks again to all &73, Angel WP3R Angel M. Angel WP3R (operations and spectrum manager) says the panels can all be replaced but the facility will be down for a while. https://www.ucf.edu/news/broken-cable-damages-arecibo-observatory/ Hopefully, the structure will be secure for any of the fall's hurricanes or tropical storms! 73, Ward N0AX Dan Werthimer Marilyn and Watson Alberts Chair Astronomy Dept and Space Sciences Lab University of California, Berkeley On Tue, Aug 11, 2020 at 7:16 PM Hien Vo Bich <[email protected]> wrote: > HI DAN.
