The consistent albeit cryptic names like “enp0s5” might make life easier for automating Linux installations, but I don’t think they make life easier for sysadmins or power users. Fortunately, this naming scheme is optional and it’s easy to switch to the more human-friendly names by adding “net.ifnames=0” to the kernel command line (probably in some grub config file, depending on your distribution). You might also need “net.biosdevnames=0”. Googling those terms plus your distro’s name will get you some relevant pages with more details.
