Hi Dave,

Happy New Year to you too! Thanks for the article. I thought I would share
this one with the community on the Xilinx Versal ACAP

-
https://www.eejournal.com/article/why-does-xilinx-say-that-its-new-7nm-versal-acap-isnt-an-fpga/

In Xilinx's words they are a platform company and no longer an FPGA
company. This definitely seems the case when looking at their products. In
fact most new Xilinx devices like the Zynq, RFSoC are more System on Chip
(SOC) devices that contain FPGA fabric. They are so much more.

The Versal contains programmable logic (adaptive logic), AI and CPU. I
believe that the user software decides what part on the Versal gets
targeted or not. I believe INAF were investigating these devices last year.
It would be great to get some feedback.

Exciting new changes coming. We are still focusing on the Xilinx Alveo with
Vitis, which basically sees the FPGA functionality as RTL kernels which can
be used for accelerating the hardware if necessary. CSIRO is doing the same.

Let us hope that the AMD/Xilinx merger doesn't cause too many issues.

Kind regards,

Adam
