If you are not using cvrsion 1.4.1 of the Sun JVM, it is a lot faster at
reflection (20 times for some operations)

If the reflection is slowing things down, would it be possible to speed
things up by specifying get-method and set-method for each field in the
xml mapping (thus removing the need for reflection)? 

I realize that this means more work for the developer, but if it
results in a performance gain for the app it may be worth it...
