I just keep it on top of the food at all times and remove it to get access when I need it and put it back before I close the lid. Helps to trap the cold air down low where it's needed.

Do you put the thermal blanket inside the cooler?

I agree, I use a thermal blanket type thing over top of the food at all
times. It keeps the cold on the food especially when the cooler isn't
full.
Also freezing whatever food you can before you leave helps...then jus
eat it
as it thaws....well cook it first

My wife and I recently acquired a 1974 Catalina 27 in pretty decent
shape.

First, any recommendations for a good swim ladder? Ours leaves a lot
to be desired.

Also, I noticed on an overnight last summer that ice stored in the
ice bin did not last very long at all. Is there a way to better
insulate it?
